Most productivity advice is either too vague or too intense. “Wake up at 5 AM!” “Grind harder!” “Just focus!”
If you’ve heard it all before and still feel stuck, you’re not alone.
As someone building a business from home (literally from my apartment), I’ve had to figure out what actually helps me get more done—and stay sane in the process.
Here are 3 simple productivity habits that actually work for me—and might help you too.
1. Plan Your Week—Not Just Your Day
This one comes straight from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and it completely changed the way I work.
Planning your week in advance helps you stay proactive. Instead of reacting to meetings, texts, and requests, you carve out time for what actually matters. Then you can leave open spots for other peoples priorities.
Weekly planning gives you the structure of monthly goals but with the flexibility to adjust as life happens. It works because it’s intentional and realistic.
Daily to-do lists are great, but I often find planning slightly ahead really makes time for the most important tasks.
If I have tasks to do on the calender Thursday, when someone asks to hang out I can more firmly say no and feel better about it.
2. Make Your Workspace a Place You Actually Want to Be
I work from home, and when my space is clean, organized, and visually dialed in, I get more done. It’s that simple.
For me, a few workspace upgrades made a big difference:
-
A supportive chair
-
A second monitor
-
And this modern time zone clock we designed at BBHoraire
That last one might sound small, but it’s symbolic. It reminds me that I’m building something. It makes the room feel more like an executive office than a bedroom corner.
If your environment is chaotic, your focus will be too. Build a space that supports the version of you you're aiming for.
Without sounding too salesy, this clock is a super easy way to upgrade your office without cluttery Amazon trinkets that seem cool but get lost in the overall scheme of your setup.
3. Do a Time Audit (This One’s Underrated)
Ever wonder where your time actually goes?
Try tracking how you spend every hour for just 2-3 days. You’ll likely be surprised by how much time goes to low-value tasks or 10-minute distractions that add up fast.
Once you see the gaps, you can cut what doesn’t serve you and focus on what does.
A time audit gives you clarity—something most of us could use more of in a busy work-life balance.
